| Middle Tennessee Permit Tech interested
in Middle Tennessee ICC Chapter of Permit Techs.
A Clarksville Codes Department Permit Tech is
already a guest member of the Texas Chapter. "There are no local
chapters in Middle Tennessee," says Amy Lawrence, "so I joined the Texas
Permit Techs. I keep up with them at their web site. I guess
if we want one here we will have to start it ourselves?" |
| |
| Amy says Permit Techs do not get
recognition for their skills and knowledge and she wants to see that
change. And she thinks she knows how to make that happen.
She wants more training opportunities for permit techs to improve her
skills and knowledge. She believes an ICC Chapter of, for and by
Permit Techs would be able to generate the kinds of education programs
she and others in their field need for personal growth. She
believes there are others in Middle Tennessee with the same insights. |
| |
| Amy knows that the plumbing & mechanical inspectors
got together and formed their own chapter a few years ago. They
now offer plumbing & mechanical inspectors all day classes twice a year
(two during the TBOA Annual Conference). All the classes are
pre-approved to meet State Re-certification Requirements. Plumbing
and mechanical inspectors report their satisfaction with the
availability of the training classes they now enjoy. Amy believes
Middle Tennessee's Permit Techs will enjoy having their own ICC chapter
just as much. "Besides, the meetings can be a lot of fun," said
Amy. |
| |
| Amy is asking those permit techs who are interested
in forming a professional association contact her with their names,
email and phone numbers. Volunteers are needed to do some of
the contact work getting the message out to Permit Techs when they start
planning their first meeting. |
| |
| "If everyone who sees this message would tell just
one permit tech about it, I believe we could soon have a list of names
of people to get us started. After we begin having meetings, a lot
of people will want to participate," Amy said. |
| |
| A spokesperson for TFACA confirmed
that consideration is being given to a training program for permit
techs. If it stirs interest and support, it could possibly reach
germination as early as this Fall. |
