Three Ways to Become Involved in Code Association Activities

1. Application for a position on the TBOA Board

The Tennessee Building Officials Association (TBOA) has membership requirements that are inclusive: if you live in Tennessee and work with Codes you are probably eligible.  Here you will meet many of the people from other jurisdictions in Tennessee that perform work similar to yours.  Regardless of your experience, serving on the TBOA Board increases your understanding of the codes process (the big picture), your role in the codes process (the specific picture), and raises your professionalism and your professional credibility to a new level.  You will form professionally supportive friendships that will last the rest of your life.  Visit www.tboa.net for membership information and forms.

2. Application to serve ICC Committees

Serving on the International Code Council (ICC) Committees puts you in touch with people performing work similar to yours from around the country.  This too is a very broadening experience.  And it puts  you in position to effect change, to let you see you can make a difference.  Download ICC Committee Application  in Word Document    or in PDF

The next link (in this box) will take you to the page on the ICC web site where you can view an organized list of all committees, the functions of each, whether any are currently taking applications or when they will next be taking applications for membership.

3. How to submit code changes to ICC

In your experience you have no doubt occasionally questioned a code reference for clarity - or found yourself in honest disagreement with the apparent intent.  Submitting your ideas in the proper form is another important way to share your experience and insights, effect change and make a difference.

If ever we find the form on the ICC web site we will provide it here along with instructions - webmaster
